Executive Producer, All Things Considered & Inductee, NAB Radio Hall of Fame NPR
As Executive Producer of NPR's flagship newsmagazine show, All Things Considered, Cara Tallo oversees the staff and directs the editorial vision of the show. Each day, the goal is to reach more — and new — listeners with the insightful news interviews and ground-breaking enterprise journalism for which NPR is known.
Tallo has spent most of her career at NPR. She started in 1999 as an intern at the Washington Desk, assisting then-Justice Department correspondent Barbara Bradley as she investigated the conduct of federal authorities in the 1993 Branch Davidian standoff.
In 2000, Tallo started work as a Production Assistant at Morning Edition. Over the next several years, she directed breaking news coverage, field produced with hosts and reporters, and helped establish NPR's Baghdad bureau with multiple trips to Iraq in 2004. She won the Overseas Press Club's Lowell Thomas Award for her work on NPR's "History of the Middle East" series, and NABJ's Salute to Excellence Award for production on Juan Williams' series marking the 40th Anniversary of the "March on Washington."
Over the decade from 2007 to 2017, Tallo managed Morning Edition assignments and coverage to address the latest news, from the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai to the 2015 bombing at the Bataclan; from the 2011 ouster of Hosni Mubarak to the 2016 election of Donald Trump.
In 2017, Tallo played a pivotal role in the conception and launch of NPR's first daily news podcast, Up First. Later that year, she moved from NPR's newsroom to the Programming division to become Executive Producer of Invisibilia, a podcast that explores the invisible forces that shape human behavior. During her time at the show, the team created new touchpoints to engage and expand their audience, both building a live show repertoire through several successful event collaborations and launching a shorter, more experimental Fall season as a counterpoint to the traditional long-form Spring season.
Tallo received a B.A. in political science and a B.S. in communication from Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y.
